Why We Love Our VIAIR Compressor

The are several items (tools) that we never leave home to travel or camp without. Our ViAir 40047 400P-RV Automatic Portable Compressor Kit happens to be one of those items.

This unit is specifically design for RV owners. The specs are:

ViAir 400P is an Automatic shut-off function portable compressor. This 33% duty cycle unit is capable of pressures up to 150 PSI and can be operated for up to 40 minutes at a time before needing to be rested. While the unit is intended for RV tires, it can be used for virtually any tire since it comes with more accessories for more varied inflating situations than any other portable compressor kit on the market today. Comes complete with a primary hose & an extension hose with a quick-connect coupling, a gas station-style air gun, a pressure gauge, 45 & 90 Tire chucks, an air filter element with replaceable air filtration media, a vibration-resistant sand tray, inflation tips and a deluxe carry bag for simple stowage and increased portability.

The key component is the ability to inflate the tires on our Airstream.  We require 65psi and your every day $30.00 car inflator just will no go to that high a PSI. Most vehicle tires are around 32-35psi.  Also the speed of inflation is incredible.  Last year, when we were about to leave one of our Boondocking Glamp Sites, our tire pressure monitoring system alarmed.  This let us know that one of the tires on Blue Streak was down to 10psi!  So I pulled out the ViAir and inflated the tire.  On the way home I notice the tire had a very slow leak.  You can check out what we discovered when you read the TPMS Alarmed Post Here – so exciting!

Besides being a life saver for tire inflation, we also use the ViAir to winterised Blue Streak at the conclusion of our camping/travel season.  To assist us in this we also picked up the ViAir Winterisation Kit. This kit contain an adjustable pressure regulator and the attachments required to connect the ViAir Compressor to the “City Water” inlet on Blue Streak.  Once connected, we are able to blow all the water out of the fresh water lines so that they don’t freeze during winter storage.  One other important aspect to the ViAir Compressor is that there is NO moisture – this unit provides DRY compressed air.
